Nestled
deep in the Andes mountains
of southern Chile, in a remote sector of Patagonia,
lies the little village of Futaleufu and Expediciones
Chile’s Patagonia Lodge. This well kept
alpine village, with its beautiful town square,
will be your host for the week. Guests who
have visited us here have compared Futaleufu
to Telluride, Colorado – how it must
have been a hundred years ago. “Futaleufú
is one of the prettiest villages in Chile,”
says Frommer’s guidebook, “a town
of 1,200 residents who live in colorful clapboard
homes nestled in an awe-inspiring amphitheater
of rugged, snowcapped mountains.”
Situated at the confluence of the turquoise-blue
Rio Espolon and the mighty Rio Futaleufu,
and way off the international tourist paths,
this pueblo offers a taste of the real Patagonia.
Centered around our Patagonia Lodge, we have
created an international destination for whitewater
rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, trekking,
horseback riding, kayak instruction and other
outdoor adventure sports.
After
a hard day of play, it is
here that you’re
invited to relax and enjoy a gourmet Chilean
meal; sample fine Chilean wines; and engage
in an evening of leisure and camaraderie
around the bar and fireplace where beer,
wine, soft and mixed drinks are available.
You can enjoy happy hour with our staff and
experience a slideshow or video presentation
of the day’s activities. Our Patagonia
lodge is an example of native wood construction
and local craftsmanship providing a cozy,
warm and inviting atmosphere. In the lodge
we hold classes and meetings, as well
as gather for daily adventures in the Futaleufu River Valley.
While most of our guests opt
to stay at our Patagonia Lodge, some prefer
a greater cultural
immersion experience offered by the other
hospedajes, inns and hotels in Futaleufu.
Most of these are located directly in town
and only minutes away from our own lodge
and are booked as part of our trip packages.
Whichever lodging option you choose, all
of our guests staying in the village of Futaleufu
join together at our lodge for meals and
to begin adventuring each day. Our twenty
year history in this remote valley has allowed
us to find the best hotels, inns and lodges
in Patagonia that offer the most exceptional
service.
The
majority of our guests who
stay in Futaleufu sleep at our lodge, featuring
hotel style
rooms filled with natural light, locally
milled woodwork, and tile finishes. All
of these rooms are warm and charming, following
local customs and architecture, giving
you a true feel for this quaint village.
For
the greatest cultural immersion
experience that will provide the most
insight in the way of life in Patagonia,
it is also possible to stay in a room at
a local Bed & Breakfast. This option allows
you to have personal interaction with a local
family and their culture. A different
experience than staying at our lodge or an inn in and not for all tastes.
No
matter which accommodation you
select, Patagonian culture and nature awaits
outside
your doorstep. Bike trails and footpaths
lead to the river. Our guides, equipment,
paddling school, lodge, eco-camps, and ranches,
combine to give you the perfect launching
pad for exploring the Futaleufu river and
exploring its tributaries.
