Day 1 Friday: Depart your home town
Fly to Miami and connect on an over night flight to Buenos Aires Argentina. Welcome to the warmth of the Southern Hemisphere in summer.
Day 2 Saturday: Travel to Trevelin, Patagonia Argentina
Early morning arrival in Buenos Aires, change airports and catch another flight to Bariloche, or Esquel, Argentina. From Bariloche, a luxury bus will take you on a beautiful drive along the Patagonian lakes and mountains to Esquel. As one of the larger villages tucked away in this part of Patagonia, there are a fair amount of shops and restaurants to enjoy before starting your trip. If you fly direct to Esquel, you will arrive with plenty of time to enjoy the area. Esquel is a quaint little village about 6 hours Southwest of Bariloche in the Andes' Steepe. A short private transfer will take you directly to the spectacularly situated Argentina fly Fishing lodge, El Encuentro, which will serve as our base-camp for fly fishing Argentina 's Rio Grande and Alcerces Park. You'll unwind from your trip with a hearty welcome-dinner, an open fireplace and a cozy room.
Day 3 Sunday: Rio Grande - Floating & Wading
After an early breakfast we set out to go fly fishing Argentina's Rio Grande. We put in near the headwaters of the Rio Grande at Lago Amutui Quimei a twenty minute drive from our riverside lodge. We drift down over the numerous gravel bars that characterize this stretch of the Rio Grande and fly fish the river's many eddies with weighted streamers. There will also be opportunities to fly fish with dry flies and use sight fishing techniques. We'll have a riverside lunch and continue fishing until we float back to the El Encuentro lodge. We'll take out and head for the lodge for a hearty dinner and plan to catch the evening hatch afterwards. Fly fishing in Argentina doesn't get much better than this!

Day 4 Monday: Esquel, Chubut - Arroyo Pescado
Today we will set out to go fly fishing Argentina's Arroyo Pescado (Spring Creek) which is about 40 kilometers east of the city of Esquel and our quarry will be Rainbow and Brown trout. We will fish with dry flies and nymphs and be wading for much of the day. You will need bomber felt soled waders with lots of traction as the riverbed is thick with slippery mosses. The creek itself lies on private property, in an open meadow that is subject to much wind exposure that increase as the day progresses. Arroyo Pescado is an incredibly productive stream with fish sizes ranging from 1.5 to 5 kilograms. Patagonia fly fishing at its best! We will head back to the entrance of Los Alcerces National Park and spend the overnight in Villa Rivadavia in well appointed and provisioned cabins.
Day 5 Tuesday: Los
Alerces Park - Rio
Rivadavia
Fly Fishing in Argentina's Los Alerces Park will be on the agenda today, specifically the Rio Rivadavia. This river connects two large lakes in Los Alerces Park. We will start in Lago Rivadavia and make our way to Lago Futalaufquen. The fishing today will be for Rainbow and Brown trout with occasional Brookies and Landlocked Salmon, depending on the water temperature and time of the year. We will be wading and drifting for most of the day until we reach Lago Futalaufquen. In the Evening we will return to our comfortable cabins in Villa Rivadavia.
Day 6 Wednesday: Los Alerces Park - Rio Arrayanes and Lago Verde
After an early breakfast we will head back to Los Alcerces National Park to fly fish Lago Verde and Rio Arraynes. Rio Arraynes is a wide river, densely vegetated with plenty of good habitat for trout. The river drains Lago Verde which is also a very productive fishing lake. Lago Verde is best fished by boat and has a wide variety of terrain characteristics that make the fly fishing varied and interesting. In the Evening we will return to our comfortable cabins in Villa Rivadavia.
Day 7 Thursday: Esquel, Chubut - Wilimanco Lagoon
We will depart Villa Rivadavia early in the morning and head out to Wilimanco Lagoon which lies about 10 kilometers from Esquel. The Lagoon is located in a colorful valley owned by the Argentine Government. Only human powered boats are permitted on the lagoon so we will fish from raft or dory in the morning. In the afternoon, as the wind picks up, we change over to wading from the shore. The gentle decline of the lake bed and shallow depth will allow us to wade out almost 100 meters from the shoreline. After a full day of fishing we will return to El Encuentro fly fishing lodge for a hearty dinner and with time to catch the evening hatch.
Day 8 Friday: Alto Rio Futaleufu - Floating & Wading
Today we leave Argentina to go fly fishing in Chile on the Upper Rio Futaleufu. After the Rio Grande crosses the border it becomes the Rio Futaleufu. We put in near the border with Argentina, about a fifteen minute drive from our El Encuentro Lodge. Today we will drift over gravel bars and fly fish the river's many eddies with weighted streamers. Once again we will have the opportunity to fly fish with dry flies and use sight fishing techniques. We'll will stop for a lunch, riverside and continue fly fishing until we get to the village of Futaleufu. We'll take out just about the famous class V Infiernio canyon and head back to El Encuentro fly fishing lodge for a hearty dinner. This is Chile fly fishing at its best!
