Patagonia Weather:
In the
Southern Hemisphere the seasons, weather and climate
are reversed from those in the Northern Hemisphere.
While we are experiencing winter in the United
States and Europe, in Patagonia ,
Chile it is
summer.

The Futaleufu River Valley lies in the rain-shadow
transition zone between the wetter Pacific
coastal area and the drier steppe of Argentina.
It is known for its unique micro-climate enjoying
some of the best weather in Patagonia. This
region is significantly drier than Puerto
Montt, Chaitén and Torres
de Paine! Consult the tables below to
determine the best time to kayak, raft, fly
fish, trek, hike, horseback ride, mountain
bike, or sea kayak.

Torres del Paine / FitzRoy: The weather in Torres del Paine and Cerro FitzRoy can be colder, wetter and less predictable than in the Futaleufu Valley. The wind is always prevalent, even in the high summer season and can exceed 50 miles/hour (80 kms/hour). Rain, sleet and snow are always a possibility, especially in the early and late shoulder seasons. The average temperature in the high summer season averages around 12ºC (50ºF). There is an old saying about the unpredictable weather in this region of Patagonia: "If you don't like the weather in Torres del Paine or FitzRoy, wait a minute."

Day-to-Day
Weather - Patagonia Climate Variations
The Patagonia Summer offers
warm, sunny days and cool nights - not unlike
the climate of British Columbia. Patagonia
days are long (18 hours), the sun rises at about 6:00
a.m. and sets near 10:00 p.m (22:00).
The Futaleufu River Valley: Typically temperatures
in the Futaleufu River Valley are in the 70s and 80s ºF ( 21/27 ºC) during the day, dropping
to about 50ºF (10ºC) at night. Higher elevations
will be experience a slightly cooler climate,
and rare frosts have been know to occur at night,
even during the summer. November and December
trips take place in the Patagonia Spring and
April trips are in the Autumn. During these
seasons daytime temperatures are usually in
the 70s ºF, and drop to the 40s ºF and 50s ºF at night.

Regional
Weather - Patagonia Forecasts
The Futaleufu River Valley:The
Futaleufu river valley lies deep in the Andes
mountains, in an isolated area of Northern
Patagonia, roughly between Puerto Montt, Chile,
and Esquel, Argentina. Because the village
of Futaleufu does not have a weather station,
the climate and weather in Futaleufu must
be approximated by looking at these two forecasts.
The town of Futaleufu is situated in a unique
rain-shadow micro-climate that makes it much
drier than Puerto Montt but somewhat wetter
than Esquel. Because it is raining in Puerto
Montt does not mean it will be raining higher
up in the Andes mountains. You never know
until you arrive; however, the forecasts below
will give you a general idea of the weather
and climate conditions in our region of Patagonia
and in the rest of Chile. See Map: Patagonia Chile

Torres del Paine / FitzRoy: Patagonia weather in Torres del Paine and FitzRoy can be estimated from Punta Arenas and Perito Moreno or alternatively Puerto Natales and El Calafate. Belo are some quick links to the Patagonia weather in these areas of Chile and Argentina.
