Yoga
Travel Week Overview
Yoga signifies harmony and
unity of mind body, and spirit. On this trip
you will unroll your mat as you practice Yoga
in the total immersion of wild nature on a
soft white sand beach at our one of a kind
eco camp at the confluence of Rio Azul with
the Rio Futaleufu in Patagonia Chile. Our
exotic eco-camp is under the gaze of the spectacular
Tres Monjas spires. This magic rejuvenating
location, surrounded by energized whitewater,
will be your home, escape, and launching pad
for an adventurous yoga travel week that includes,
rafting, trekking, sea kayaking, mountain
biking, horseback riding and Yoga. Each day
either morning or evening we practice yoga
while our days are filled with thrills, fun
and discovery. Meals are from our organic
greenhouses with fresh ground grains. Water
is sweet and pure from a closed Andean rock
spring. A sauna and masseuse, and our hot
water outdoor grotto shower are available
for relaxing your tired muscles. Dinner is
sit down. Afterwards our campfire is filled
with shared stories from the adventures of
the day. You will walk to your tent supplied
with plush mattresses under the stars of the
Southern Cross.
Our
Yoga Travel Week Instructor
Jo-Ann Bas is an outdoor enthusiast
and our Yoga instructor at Campo Tres Monjas.
She believes that a yoga travel/adventures
immersion in this pristine setting is an optimal
place to reconnect and experience renewal.
She has been practicing Yoga for 10 years
and has formally studied yoga at Integral
Yoga Institute in NYC where she obtained degrees
in Hatha I, Prenatal/Postpartum and Children's
Yoga. She
has been fortunate to train under Angela Farmer,
Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste and Ana Forrest.
Her deepest teachings have come from Insight
Meditation Society and chanting with Krishna
Das. Jo-Ann's approach as an instructor is
simply to share a space where the individual
can connect to their own inner-teacher. And
ultimately, have a good time along the way.
Yoga
Travel Week Itinerary
Day
1: Fri: Depart your
home country.
Travel
to Chile, take an overnight flight from
your hometown to Chile.
Day 2 Sat: Arrival
and Welcome to Chile!
Arrive in Santiago and travel to Puerto
Montt. In Puerto Montt you board your 40-minute
flight to Chaitén, a flight back
in time. We will meet you at the airport
where we start our drive across the Andes,
past: volcanoes, fjord-like lakes, hanging
glaciers and the turquoise rapids of the
Futaleufu river. We arrive at Campo Tres
Monjas by paddling in canoes across the
gentle Rio Azul.
Day 3. Sun: Sit
on top Kayaking and Mountain Biking
We meet for yoga on our beach. After breakfast
our adventures start with a moderate mountain
bike ride alongside the pristine waters
of the Rio Espolón. We then cross
over the river on a footbridge and up to
Devil’s Throat, a breathtaking and
still un-run class 6 cascade at the exit
of the Lago Espolon. Below the falls, we'll
enjoy lunch and then trade our mountain
bikes for sit-on-top kayaks and paddling
gear. In double or single crafts, we will
travel down the Espolón and enjoy
its transparent waters, ideal swimming areas,
and easy rapids - the perfect introductory
run.
Day 4. Mon:
Rafting the Futaleufú
We meet for yoga on our beach. After breakfast
we will raft Chile 's most action packed
section of whitewater - a virtual whitewater
power storm! This section, from the Zapata
swinging bridge to the Puente Futaleufu,
includes five miles of class 4+ rafting
action. Rapids such as Entrada, Pillow,
Tiburon, and Mundaca with its must-see explosion
hole, will keep you on your toes. In a calmer
section below the rapids, we will do some
swim training in preparation for the more
intense rapids of the coming days. The afternoon
allows time for a jog or a walk up to an
overlook. We travel back to Campo Tres Monjas
for our evening Yoga session on the beach
before dinner.
Day 5 Tues: Futaleufú
Rafting: Casa de Piedra section.
After breakfast we travel to the river again
repeating our introduction stretch of whitewater
but we head into the Casa de Piedra section
our first taste of Class 5 whitewater. We
now have experience working as a team and
we need it. We return to Campo Tres Monjas
for our evening Yoga session on the beach
before dinner.
Day 6 Wed: Horseback
riding or Sea Kayaking
We meet for yoga on our beach. After breakfast
go back in time and horseback ride through
the 'trails of neighbors'. It is a network
of narrow roads that locals travel on foot,
oxcart or horse that lead to the valleys
and isolated settlements. A full day out
in the 'Last Frontier' in Patagonia.
Or we get into the sea kayaks for a circumnavigation
of the Lago Lonconoa and a short trek along
its shores.
Day 7 Thu:
Raft the Infierno Canyon
After breakfast we prepare for the most
demanding, committing, and challenging section
of the Futaleufu. To raft this section safely,
the river levels must be right, you must
have previously rafted the Corazon section
with us and met all of our safety requirements.
We put in at the bridge on the Río
Espolón and soon arrive at the confluence
with the Río Futaleufu. At the Gates
of Infierno, we enter the Infierno Canyon
with several serious and continuous class
5 drops. After an exciting morning of rafting
in the canyon, the river widens with spectacular
views of the Las Escalas Valley. After a
section of gentle water, the river returns
to its wild side and we encounter Zeta and
Throne Room, two of the most ferocious rapids
on the Futa. We will portage both. After
the portages, we get into the action section
called The Wild Mile, which contains continuous
class 3 and 4 rapids. We arrive directly
at our sand beach where we will practice
evening Yoga before dinner.
Day 8 Fri: Rafting
the Terminator Section
After the morning Yoga and breakfast we
start our river trip from the same white
sand beach. We enjoy a warm up on a vigorous
stretch of river that winds around the Tres
Monjas peaks. Then, the river takes on an
extremely powerful nature, with the longest
and largest rapid on the Futa, the 'Terminator'
(class 5). Just below, we'll have to negotiate
the hole filled Khyber Pass (class 4+) and
the Himalayas (class 4), with perhaps the
biggest standing waves in the hemisphere.
We return for our going-away dinner 'fiesta',
award ceremony, and a video review of our
Yoga Adventure week.
Day 9 Sat: Farewell
breakfast & Departure
Wake up for an early breakfast and drive
back to Chaitén. As you catch a final
view of the Río Futaleufu; surrounded
by hanging glaciers, take a moment to reflect
upon all of the amazing sights and experiences
of our yoga travel week. After all these
years we are still stunned that views like
these exist. Fly to Puerto Montt, Santiago
and onward towards home.
